Kia Niro Wins Red Dot Design Award
Jackson Kia is pleased to announce that the Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid has been recognized with a 2023 Red Dot Design Award. The award was in the Product Design Category. This is the second year in a row a Kia has received a Red Dot Design award.
A Red Dot Design Award is one of the most highly sought-after acknowledgments of design excellence. The awards are judged annually by a jury of international design experts who examine each submission for design quality and degree of innovation. This and the past awards are a clear recognition of Kia’s commitment to designing innovative, high-quality vehicles that meet the needs of its customers while also staying at the forefront of cutting-edge design.
The Red Dot goes to the Niro Plug-in Hybrid
All Kia Niro models are electrified with a choice of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery-electric drivetrains. The exterior features an emotional aesthetic that remains practical for the model’s mission. The exterior aesthetics are guided by Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. Standout features include the Aero blade C-Pillar that contrasts with the body color, along with the angular ‘Heartbeat’ daytime running lights (DRLs), and a bold front a bold skid plate that becomes integral to the design. The tiger nose design that was previously embodied by Kia grilles has now expanded to a signature “tiger face” that includes the headlight clusters and narrow body color panel connecting them.
The eco-centric aspect of the drivetrains is reflected in the interior as well. Particularly in the materials which include:
- Recycled wallpaper in the headline
- VOC-free paint in the door panels
- PU vegan leather seat coverings, made from Tencel from Eucalyptus trees.
- The Cargo panel consists of 75% recycled fibers.
Kia’s 14-Year Streak of Award-Winning Design
The Niro award marks the 28th time a Kia model has received a Red Dot award since its first in 2009 and the third award in three years for a Kia model. Last year, the all-new EV6 took the crown of the awards by winning the ‘Best of the Best’ award across all categories for its pioneering and forward-looking design. In the prior year, the 2021 Kia Sorento also won the Red Dot Award for its product design. Kia has even won design awards outside of its products. Last year, an installation in Italy highlighting the company’s brand philosophy, known as the Moving Inspirations Project, also was awarded a Red Dot Design Award. All of these awards demonstrate the company’s continued ability to create exceptional products that push the boundaries of design excellence.
“We are honored to be recognized by the Red Dot Design Award for our efforts, and we look forward to continuing to push the boundaries of automotive design,” said Sjoerd Knipping, Vice President of Product and Marketing at Kia Europe. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our design and engineering teams, as well as the winning nature of our design philosophy ‘Opposites United.’
With the award-winning Niro, EV6, Sorento, and all the other Kia models penned with the same design philosophy, Jackson Kia just might have the most attractive inventory in Cocoa. There is beauty in the engineering as well, and to appreciate that, you will just have to visit Jackson Kia for a closer look and test drive.
